I am just now getting back to my husband's MCCOY line in Virginia, circa
1750. They were centered more in Bedford Co., I believe, as I have found
many of the families who intermarried with the MCCOY line, PAYNE,
MEADOR, COBBS, BAKER, are also located there in the mid 1700s. The name
was probably MacKay when they emigrated, but I haven't gotten that far
back yet. From VA, the above families went to Breckinridge Co., Kentucky
in the 1820s.

Not what you were specifically asking for, but I came across a very
interesting article submitted to Genealogy.com's GenForum the other day.
It puts the migration patterns of early Virginia into the perspective of
who came when and where they settled. There is a section on Ulster Scots
and the formation of the different Virginia counties.
