Dear fellow oppressed earthlings (joined together by being disallowed to express our political views, stuck here doing genealogy....),
Instead of exercising -- or exercising my right to voice my political views in person if not on list --- I've been doing some work. I profoundly apologize!!! Still.....I found an awesome set of pages that I hope will not distract you from your off list political pursuits though they have distracted me from my immediate genealogical task.
The New River area comprises southwest Virginia and the adjoining portions of North Carolina. It is an area many of our Scotch Irish (and Scorched Irish as I originally wrote) went through. (I learned this today!!)
There's a lot on the web including an analysis of the ethnity of these people. How right it is I do not know but I'm sure we can argue about it for a few days.

The parent page has great maps of the affected counties:

As well as a number of on line resources like 1782 tax lists!!
There's a search engine even to keep your poor little eyes from falling out on the floor from overuse, like mine. It's Doooowwwwwnnnn at the bottom. Scroolllllll. Great pages on the Regulators and other stuff.
