There is a great article online that I think explains the Ulster-Scot
(Scotch-Irish) history very well. The address is:

I'm Brenda, by the way, and new to this list group. I'm also trying to pin
down more information about my ancestors from Coleraine, County Londonderry
in Ireland. They arrived here and settled in Northampton Co. NC and Augusta
Co., VA in ~1746. The oldest ancestor is Jonathan Robertson.
