The Huguenots were very influential in the linen industry.
Bessbrook was a linen town.
The Pollock family were in business there as early as 1760.
In 1845 it was taken over by a Quaker family, the Richardsons. The
Richardsons had been in linen since 1654. Bessbrook was considered a model
village, a company village. The company, the Bessbrook Spinning Co., closed
down in 1973.
The Ulster Weaving Co. carried on till 1987.
