Subject: [Scotch-Irish] Status Update from List Admin (Off topic)
Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2001 22:28:58 -0800

Hi folks, if you are getting this email you are still on the
Scotch Irish list. It's been quiet. Part of the reason is that
I've not had time to spark any conversations or to join in.
I am in the process of relocating from Southern California back
to New England because my family is in the East and all my
research is there too and I have long wanted to visit Montreal and
Virginia instead of Death Valley. As well as being a few hours
closer to the center of the known universe: Belfast!!

I will continue to work for the same firm (www.filenet.com --
email me if you'd like to buy some software <grin>) but in the
Boston office, commuting in on a train. A complete life style
change. I'm apparently buying a house in Shrewsbury while still
looking for a buyer for the digs in San Juan Capistrano. All this
is extremely stressful and time consuming. It shouldn't be too
shocking since I moved out from New England.

Next Monday the van comes and takes away my genealogy books and
computer. My daughter flies out too. Teusday morning we pack up
the dog and cat and head east down 40. So I'll be totally out
of commission as a list admin for 3 to 4 days.

So there will be a substitute. Ley O'Connor has agreed to help out.
Rootsweb maintains webpages of people volunteering to sub on lists
and that's where I found Ley. He lives in the western USA, if I
recall, and says he is "a non Catholic O'Connor researching
Hungarian Jewish roots in New york and Romania. Not to mention the fiesty redhead peasant girl from Brigown on the estate of the Earl of Kingston and her entire family getting kicked off and sent into the wilds of Upper Canada in 1825 since "they had been BRED for farming". "
He says he has no Scotch. Someone buy him a bottle and then he will.
(Though I prefer Bushmills, myself!)

I hope to soon be able to get to Newburgh, New York, the Mid Atlantic
archives, the Balch Institute, and all those other places in the
surrounding area. And I'll only be an hour by plane from my
parents and other relations in western PA.

I'll be back in California though, in August if not before, at
the British Isles Family History Society USA. I should be back for
training periodically as well.

So I at least will be quiet and unhelpful till the house closes,
the van arrives and I unpack the genealogy books. They're the first
thing I will unpack, of course! After the Prozak. I have never had so
many anxiety attacks as I have in the last 2 weeks.
