I understand that there are a few variations on this
family name spelling. Even though my Hughes family,
came to US in 1862, came from Co. Monaghan in The
Irish Republic they were supposed to have been
Protestant. I have also heard of Catholics with this
name as well. Can you give me a little more insight on
this?
Any tips on looking up Irish families who emigrated
from Ireland to US?
