Hi folk, I received an email from a list member telling me that the
Columba House does not respond to genealogical queries. Perhaps not,
but it is listed as the place to write in "Beginning Scottish Research" by
Nancy Carlberg. And I've seen it elsewhere too.

So, rule number 1 -- check the right source. Clearly we are not. THis list
is largely researching in Ulster (or trying to get to the point where we can
research in Ulster!) and once there, geneally looking for Protestants. So
we're not the right place. Check Scottish lists.

Also check a good, recently published, source. Try Sherry Irvine's book
"Your Scottish Ancestry" (Ancestry). Check www.rootsweb.com/~bifhsusa --
they sell Michael Gandy's books. He knows A LOT about British Catholic
records. Our lister reports no Glasgow records in Edinburgh in RH21 .
He does report success with Gandy's publications.

Let me also add that no one has all answers so if you got another one,
even one that contradicts other posts, please don't hesitate to share. A
slightly different viewpoint from others can make the lights go off and
lead to success.

Hopefully he's contacted our friend directly.

Best of luck,

Linda Merle
