Dear fellow listers,
I have two questions for anyone who can answer them. First, was Dublin
considered Northern Ireland during the early to mid 1700's? And second,
would it have been abnormal for a Scotch-Irish person to have been baptized
and/or married in a Catholic church?
My ancestor came to the colonies in 1750. He was said to have been from
Northern Ireland and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in his new home.
Now, records state that his wife was Scotch-Irish but says nothing of him.
Using the LDS website, I have found someone matching my ancestor in a
Catholic church in Dublin, but nowhere else. Which brings up a new question.
Would an Irish Catholic man marry a Scotch-Irish woman in a Catholic church
during that time frame? Am I confusing anybody, 'cause I'm starting to
confuse myself. Thanks for any help.
Sincerely,
Dave King
