Danile Cargill Martin is my 2nd great grand-uncle. He was ordained by the
Pittsburgh Presbytery in 1871. Daniel was given a commission to tour the
Northwest and locate any Scotch Irish societies and organize them into small
mission stations. This trip was taken on horseback. He then accepted the call
to the Princeton, Indiana. From there, he went to the East End Reformed
Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh. Daniel Cargill Martin died in Pittsburgh
in 1916.
His father, John Martin was born in Mullyash tl, Monaghan Co., Ireland in
1794. His mother, Margaret Dodds, was born in 1803 in Mullyash tl, Monaghan
Co., Ireland.
John and Margaret Martin brought their family to the US in 1830 on the ship,
Golconda. They lived near the towns of Armagh and Newry, County Armagh prior
to coming to the US. They were Covenanters and attended the Reformed
Presbyterian in Scott Twp., Lawrence County, PA. Their minister was Rev.
James Blackwood
John and Margaret Martin are buried in the Eastbrook UP church cemetery,
located in Lawrence County, PA.
