Subject: SPROULE, Flax Growers list, 1796

Assuming the your Robert SPROULE immigrated about 1800, I thought that he
might be listed in the flax growers list of 1796. There were no listings
for SPROULE but there were several for SPROWLE, which I assume might be an
alternate spelling. I am listing them according to the civil parish in Co.
Tyrone with is given for each:
Ardstraw: Andrew and Gabriel SPROWLE
Longfield East: Robert SPROWL, Hugh SPROWLE
Termonamongan: Andrew, Gasper, John, and Samuel SPROWLE
Urney: Andrew, Robert, and William SPROWLE
I don't know what townlands these parishes include. If you find out, I
would be interest in knowing since several of my surnames are also in
these parishes. It sounds as if your ancestor might be among the
Scotch-Irish Presbyterians who moved from SC to Ohio in the 1800-1810
period, apparently because they did not approve of slavery. My husband's
McDILL family moved, with many members of their Hopewell congregation, from
Chester District to Preble County, Ohio, about 1805 for this reason.
