We are pursuing our family tree which is pretty solid up through brothers and sisters George Thompson b. 1746 Montgomery Co, Va and Archibald Thompson b. 1736 Ireland, Roden Thompson b. 1748, Anne Thompson June 2, 1734 Ireland, Mary Thompson 1739, Lucy Thompson 1741/42, Rebekah Thompson b. 1746. Most of the solid information comes from a diary kept by Archibald Thompson. Problem is we know the fathers name was John Thompson and Mary unknown but we have no other information and there's so many John and Mary's in Virginia and surrounding areas at that time you can't swing a stick without hitting one. John's fathers name was William which is another unique name in the Scotch-Irish lineage so we're kind of stuck. There is one family that lined up just fine and that was a John, William and Rachel, father William that came from the County Down area 1720's but there are two many problems with the dates. Our family was very strongly connected to the Skaggs family which reputedly origi!
nate in the Derry area mid 1600's. So I guess what I'm saying is, we believe that our family might have originated Scotland, made in tirp to Northern Ireland for awhile before moving on to the states. It is possible the kids came without the parents. Does this ring any bells with anyone out there. Thanks
