Odd this should arise just now. One of my grandaughters, married to an
Irish "Gibbons", is pregnant, and we (half "tongue in cheek") went through
some of the names in our ancestral list. Most were Biblical, some for
geographical places or famous people, some surnames used as given names, but
a few were quite unusual. Xantippe (wife of Socrates), Amasa, Luceba, Icie,
Anzina (sounds like a heart problem), Mahala, Syrlda, Orpha, Jantha & Iantha
(feminine form of Ian). The guys weren't left out either, with Green Berry,
Sylvenis, Salathiel (repeated 3 times), & Commodore Perry! At least they
stand out in the family genealogy. I kind of favored Jantha and Salathiel,
but was vetoed!
