This is my first posting to this list. The question I have is this: I
suspect my Hugh Cunningham from Carbon Co. PA (he lists his birthplace
as Ireland) is Scotch-Irish. The reason for that is the following and I
would like to hear from anyone else that heard this.
Dupatrons (sp?) Contracture runs in my family at least 3 generations
back and I was told by my brother, whose physician told him that only
Scotch Irish people have this affliction. I also heard it from another
person who just had the surgery to correct it. Any truth to this?
The condition affects the tendons in the hands & feet, drawing the
fingers onto the palm of the hand or the toes under to the sole of the
foot. Some of my early relatives were treated for 'hammer toes' but
later diagnosis indicates it was the dupatrons contracture. My brother
has had to have surgery many times on his hands (he is now 53 yrs old)
and a few times on his feet - that is the only way to correct this. He
presently showing another one - large ugly tumor like growth on the
tendon of his hand and the finger is starting to curl in.
I would really like to know if this is a Scotch Irish only condition -
that way I can pursue that line of research.
Thanks,
Alice Finnegan
