Hi everyone,

The topic of Irishmen serving in other countries' armies has come up
several times recently, but as a fairly new subscriber, I don't know if
Richard Hennessy has come up before. He was Irish, although I don't know
if he was Scots-Irish. His was an officer for Louis XV of France. He
retired, bought land along the Charente river in the Champagne region. In
1765 he founded the House of Hennessy, and became a leading producer of
cognac. His descendents are still making cognac there.
