Pretty fair explanation perhaps.
Respecting your dictum that this is not the place to discuss the OO I
encourage anyone who is interested in learning about their Orange
roots or heritage to join the Canada Orange Mailing List.
BUT, please note POLITICS is BANNED from the list . Also, the focus is
on Orange culture, history, and genealogy in Canada and North America
where the first Orange Lodge was established some 200 years ago. It
has it's own history quite apart from that of Ulster or Ireland or
The OO in North America is NOT the same as in Northern Ireland. It
has the same roots but is a reflection of the different culture and
One example of this is that Orangemen in both Canada and the USA CAN
marry Roman Catholics.
Another is that the OO in North America is non-political. It instead
focuses on it own religious principles and heritage. It is similar to
the Masons (of which several founding members of the Orange Lodge were
members) or even the Lions (speaking as someone who was himself a King
