Can anybody assist me in finding the lost years of one of my ancestors called
Farquhar McKinnon from Mull. Farquhar was born in Mull on the 31 December
1780, and joined the army at what age i am not sure. The only thing that i do
know is that he married an Irish woman called Margaret McNamara, and their
daughters Margaret and Mary were born in Ireland. Margaret was born in
1801,and Mary in 1819. Farquhar returned to Scotland as did Mary, though i do
not have his wife in Scotland, she must have died in Ireland. The information
i have is not specific in pinpointing where in Ireland he may have been with
the army, but if anyone can help i would be grateful. My other query is about
the name Gillan in Ireland, my ancestors in this line spelt the name as both
Gillian and Gillan, and as usual i have the "born in Ireland" entry that does
not help in getting back further. I know that Gillian/Gillan comes from
MacLean, so were the Irish Gillans Gallowglass soldiers or were they planted
there?
If anyone can help please send an e-mail
thanks
