The way I understand is ( complicated),in gaelic O hAodhagain.It was
anglicized O'HAGAN and from that comes
HAGANS,HAGGENS,HEGEN.HIGGINS,HOGGAN.Some were further anglicized to
AIKEN.
Hogg was an English name sometime used in Northern Ireland as a
synonym.This probably is where your information came from.
