An article appeared in the VAMONTG-L January 7th on the Wilderness Road
which branched off from Salem Va first used in 1749. A cousin of mine said
it lead out of Christianburg Va and was known as Wildnerness Road , now
Roanoke St. It crossed the mountains near Pulaski and Christiansburg..it
followed a trail known as Reedy Creek Rd to the present Kingsport Tenn. " I
can look out form the hill where I live and see part of that old road
today..and I can walk through the woods and find places where the banks are
eight or ten feet high where the pioneer wagons wore the earth away"
Garnett Lee Hearl , Abingdon Va on the Wilderness Road.
The VAMONTGO-L archives should have the whole article which is a little over
one page.
