Jeanne
the place to look for information on someone like Gentleman Jim Corbett
is on the internet proper, using all the search engines you can find.
There are bound to be stories, biographies etc just waiting for you to
look them up. I have certainly found that when researching my most
hard-to-find cousin, the Irish novelist Francis Stuart, who married
Iseult Gonne, ie Maud Gonne's daughter, and later spent World War II in
Berlin lecturing in Irish and English literature at Berlin University,
and also broadcasting on German radio for Goebbels' Ministry of
Propaganda, one of the best sources was the archives of the Irish Times
on the web. He was created a Saoi by Aosdana, the Irish cultural
organisation, a couple of years ago - the last step in what has been a
long process of rehabilitation - and the controversy created makes
anything on this list look like a Sunday School picnic for kindergarten
kids! Both columnists and letter writers lining up on both sides to
have their say, and no holds barred! Fighting as only the Irish can
fight!
Of course the controversy was mostly about Francis himself and his life,
but it led me to other sources - a book review, for example, on
"Hitler's Irish Voices", David O'Donoghue's story of German radio's
wartime Iriah Service. Also Geoffrey Elborn's biography "Francis Stuart:
A Life", (though it wasn't through the Irish Times that I found that)
and the Writing Ulster 1996 Francis Stuart Special Edition from
University of Ulster at Jordanstown (where a wee wob has a job interview
coming up, for which he is wished luck)
So good luck with your search, there must be plenty on the internet on
Gentleman Jim Corbett
Charlie
