My family has gone on a photo frenzy since my dad and two aunts died. We brought home so many and my cousin shared lots of hers and we have all been making copies. One of the upsides to this has been now when I tell my siblings of any new info I have gotten on the family, instead of this blank stare when I say something about Rhoda Causey's sister, I say, "you know the picture of George W. in the Civil War uniform? It was his aunt. Now they they have a visual that they can connect to and show much more interest.
My husband's aunt brought out old pictures of their side and I made her sit down and write on the back of them. Then I brought them home and scanned them and put them on floppy discs. She lives in TX, but now it's easy for anyone here in CA to get a copy from me and we know who they are.
I recently sent about a dozen photos of my mom's high school friends to the Champaign Co., IL Historical Society. There is a section on the county web page where they periodically post pictures no one knows the name. We felt they should go to family members and didn't know the names (so they really had no meaning for us). She went to high school in Urbana, IL, and graduated about 1930, so I'm hoping some will find their way to a family member this way.
