Hi,
>Can any one tell me how one goes about searching for a Parish Im
searching for some info on church records for Belfast Ireland around the
years 1846/1847
Whether there are records available depends on the religion and the individual
parish. The best place to look is Ryan "Irish Records". It will identify
the parishes (civil
and Roman Catholic) as well as PResbyterian congregations (not organized by
parish), what records exist and where they are. If the records have been
filmed by
LDS it provides the film number. Most of them are NOT on LDS if RC or
Presbyterian.
Some Church of Ireland records were destroyed in the Four Courts fire and
are non-
existent. Others, like for Londonderry, go back into the 1600's and are
published.
Ryan will ID any Quaker, Baptist or Methodist records in existence and
their location
as well. It is recently revised and so is up to date. Do not use Falley --
the book
was published in the 1960's -- and some records have been filmed by LDS
since then.
Ryan's book can be found at libraries, LDS center near you, or you can buy it
at www.ancestry.com .
Happy Hunting,
Linda Merle
