Both the Scots MAC INTYRE and the Irish MAC ATEER have the same Gaelic
root "MAC an tSaoir"meaning "son of the craftsman". In Scotland MAC
INTYRE is a recognized Clan in it's own right. They are thought to have
come from the Hebrides(islands) to Lorn in Argyllshire.-----In Ireland
you will find MACINTYRES in mostly Ulster, but not exclusively.MAC ATEER
is exclusive to Ulster, mostly in Antrim.Donegal and Armagh, which was
"home base".-----As you see,it could be either Scots or Irish,as it is
in most casesĀ ,you must trace the individual to really know the origin
of the PERSON.---------Now,let's try FRY,an English name occassionally
used as a synonym for FERRIS in West Ulster. Now HOLLAND,an English
place-name .In Co.Limreck it is an abbreviation Of MULHOLLAND,and in Co.
Clare sometimes as a synonym of HOLOHAN. SOOOOOOOOO,you've got lots of
posibilities,good hunting ,have fun,take care,
