Welcome, Lew,

I am attaching to this email the URL to the list's award winning website. It
has lots of information on researching in NI. It has MANY LINKS to actual,
real, on line, free information as well as the major resources such as GENUKI.

PRONI is Public Records Office of Northern Ireland. PRO is the Public Records
Office of the UK. Also called Kews from where it is. SRO -- Scottish Records
Office. OPR == (Scottish) Old Parochial Records . BMD = Birth/Marriage/Death
records; ie civil registration . Gee, what else do we use???

PRONI has an incredible website:

http://proni.nics.gov.uk/index.htm Everything you wanted to know about
finding
ancestors in NI but were afraid to ask.

The British Isles Family History Society-USA also has a how to guide for
British and Irish research which is also closely geared to doing that research
through LDS (Latter Day Saints). Ie..."okay, I know it exists, but where is
it?"
syndrome as well as the "so I live in the US, do I have to go there?" one
... www.rootsweb.com/ ~bifhsusa -- it is currently DOWN. Rootsweb
has been having a hardware problem. So try again later. It ain't you...I
can't help.
If you can assist in hard disk repair, call Brian....he needs you.

Also you should explore the North of Ireland Family History Society at

http://www.mni.co.uk/nifhs/ . They are our Family History Society. The
general
secretary was an active member of this list until he got too busy. Several
other
members are with us. We might be doing some more direct partnering together
in the future.

They publish North Irish Roots . Which has just arrived. Among other
things, when
you join (see webpage) you get access to their membership list and their
interests.
So you can find real living cousins in NI who are also doing research.

When we go to NI in September, the North Irish Family History Society will be
waiting for us and are arranging a reception for us.

Most intriguing thing in the NI Roots: ERA Designs ad. They sell herald arms
kits to cross stitch! The URL didn't work... email (untried)
.
My Christmas problems are solved. Everybody has a last name, right??
