Dunno how we got onto medical care but here is a true horror tale. A
couple from eastern Canada were on vacation in the States. They had
their provincial health coverage as well as other health care programs
through their jobs--one of which would cover them while out of the
country--that is it would take up the slack on anything not covered by
the provincial plan. Sounds good?

But. The woman was pregnant and gave birth prematurely while down south.
A seven month baby with complications. And, since the baby was a brand
new person, was not registered as a recipient under either medical care
system. They soon owed the American system hundreds of thousands of
dollars and decided it was cheaper to charter a plane to fly back to New
Brusnwick than to keep the meter running in the US.

I think the insurance company eventually kicked in some, but not all of
the money.
