Ah Ha!! You are SO right! I wonder if all theological traditions have such
a direct impact upon the parenting practices.....probably.

A few years ago it occurred to me that the way the story of the Akkidah was
taught to me....as the test of the "faith" of Abraham (being obedience to an
innane command) and "passed" by Abraham in his willingness to sacrifice his
child might be downright WRONG. I had suffered as a youngster because I
"knew" I could/would not take such an action....now it occurs to me that to
emphasize the "obedience" theme is to promote abuse and slavery.

There are a good many lessons to be learned from Abe and Isaac, but the
obedience slant leads, IMO, to the possibility of a Nazi Germany. "Good"
people who believe that God prefers obedience to love.
