I've learned so MUCH just reading, but I must confess the NUT jokes and
asides here have kept my heart light. I LOVE it!

HAD to throw my two cents worth in on ORNERY vs CANTANKEROUS.

Bonnie, I believe you've given one of the best descriptions of "ornery"
I've heard. And yes it's use often tends to lean to affection.

Perhaps an example would help to clarify the difference:

An elderly gentlemen who is generally grumpy, recalcitrant and has a
negative attitude would be ornery.

If, however, he removes his dentures and uses them to bite his NURSE -
that's cantankerous!

Then AGAIN, if he's disgustingly wealthy and he is YOUR relative -
he's just being playful! (Grins)
