I think defining ornery a very difficult job. You are righi in it connotation
of affection, even reluctant admiration _ at least some of the time. But
ornery can be good for nothing and carry a little disgust with it as well.
All in cont ext, I guess. No wonder it has not travelled well across the
ocean.
