Hi David,
Cotton Mather was a rather uptight Puritan leader in the Mass
Bay Colony. Benedict Arnold betrayed the Americans to the British
during the American Revolution. His name is synonymous with
"traitor" in the American mythology. Cotton Mather was
a leader in the Salem Witch Trials, I beleive -- where they
did the usual thing -- killed some women for being witches.
