My paternal grandparents came from County Monaghan in 1878. I don't know if
they considered themselves SI, but my grandfather was definitely an
Ulsterman. His concerns were about what was going on in Ireland in his
lifetime. He was adamant that his roots were Scottish, but both he and
his father were born in Ireland. Even though they came over 100 years after
the early group who contributed so much to settling the USA, would they
still be SI?
I would say my grandparents were SI, and also my dad and his brothers and
sisters. But I don't consider myself anything but American with a lot of
roots in Ulster, both Scots and English.
Does anyone care to validate or correct my thinking?
(Boy, am I brave! This is the Scotch-Irish List.)
