The tendency to marry "within your own kind" was very prevalent.
In old Roman Catholic cemeteries (incorporated before 1900) you and your
spouse were buried in the cemetery plots associated with your particular
parish. The parishes were totally ethnic. The Germans would go to St.
Boniface, the Irish to St. Patrick's and the Poles to St. Stanislaus,
etc.
If you don't believe it go to some of the old Catholic churces in large
metropolitan areas in the east: Baltimore, Boston, Pittsburgh, etc
My father, who is 100% Polish and Catholic dated a 100% Russian girl who
was Orthodox. Her brothers beat him up and broke his nose! The year
was 1938.
