I was hoping that things were getting better.
Apparently not.
I asked Edward about his views, because I hadn't been on the list long
enough to understand where the problem was.My intention was to smooth
things over. His reply that Sir Walter Scott had something to do with the
Civil War was amazing to me.However I wanted to build some common ground
of understanding,so I spent several hours composing a reply that would
give in story form a different view of the South. Notice that he thanked
me for that and had a further opportunity to air his views. I received
numerous positive personal e-mails from those really enjoyed this post.
Most Scotch Irish came thru Pa.in the earliest days, and the Appalachian
enclaves are the most fossilised remains we have of that time.S.Carolina
had the highest concentration of Scotch Irish in the first census. It is
a pity that those of us who are interested in this history are not
welcome to write about it here.
I have not complained about the toe threads, the joke threads, the
equasion of Scotch-Irish with Presbyterians.Borderers like the Elliotts
were only nominally Christian at best when they left Scotland.I don't
mind what ANYONE ELSE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT OR BE,but if we can't talk
about serious subjects too (even when I was going to alot of effort to
be conciliatory) then I guess I'm not interested.
