It was NOT from Wallaces own time! The only source we have on the early
life of Sir William Wallace (c. 1272-1305) is the biographical poem written
by Henry the Minstrel (better known as "Blind Harry") sometime in the
15th Century. That allows over 100 years for the few facts which his poem
carried to become distorted or embroidered.
