Gilda,emigrants,especially if they were ex military, were given or sold
cheaply,land on the frontier.It is true that they were encouraged to
locate there to defend against the Indians.It is also true that to send
an unexperienced "city" man to such an area would have been no help at
all.,to him or anyone else. Life was hard. Some body had to send and
somebody had to go. Our forefather's were willing to take the risk.The
conditions in the old country,made the frontier look attractive in
comparison .
