Gordon Johnson wrote "ALL proposed marriages in Scotland had to have the
banns called in the local Church of Scotland parish church, even if the
marriage was in another church in another denomination. This is why so many
marriages can be found in the IGI and OPR-Index, although the parents'
births (and siblings) may not be there."
Gordon, thank you so much. This gives me a whole new avenue of research. I
had been looking for birth records--now I will look for marriage records.
