Well, I have two different "three brothers" stories in my family, except
neither of them are Scotch-Irish.
One is about my Sowells who started off in the Tidewater VA area --- one
line moves south (into NC and SC) and then west (into TN and later TX) and
the other two lines supposedly headed west -- one thru VA and maybe farther
west, the other thru NC and farther west.
The other was three politically oppressed Von Der Burg brothers and their
families. Two settled in MD, the third family shipwrecked and only a 14 yr
old son survived (my progenitor).
Maybe there's something about the number 3?
But then again, I'm beginning to suspect my Hunters were connected to a
Hunter family that emigrated from Scotland thru Co. Derry and on to NC
---and that was supposedly FIVE brothers.....
