Hi everyone,
I sure don't know if the Lia Fail (in London) is the real one or
not (some maintain the Scots fooled the English who made off with
a fake), or if the Scots one is the original one from Tara -- if
so I want it back -- I'm descended from those guys (along with
half the Irish global nation -- the other half being descended
from Cuchulain). None of my ghostly ancestors told me if where
they got it either. However as Edward Andrews says....

Actually, what is important and also interesting is the mythology
of the stone. I find that very very interesting. I also like the
story of the arrival of the Milesians (being one myself), etc, but
on the other hand we have no birth certificates. It is all best to
enjoy it as myth, because whether or not it is "really" true, it
is absolutely, without any doubt, totally real myth. And myth is
important. I mean -- what else would they slaughter to make TV
shows if they didn't have myth? Actually it is the myth which
survives and nurtures the minds and imaginations of our children
long after our genealogies have been forgotten.
So rather than arguing too much about whether or not it is 'true',
lets explore and enjoy it. Not that we weren't anyway.
I liked the touch about the Cess Pit cover -- that certainly
extended the myth for me. I think I could write some commentary on
that theme, but I won't <grin>. I hadn't heard it either though I have
gone a couple rounds of both the "Romans in Ireland" and the
Lia Fail threads on several lists and aren't usually too eager to
see the subjects come up again.
So... up myth!!! (I'm off to talk me da into carving spirals
into his cess pit cover -- maybe we can convince someone Celtic
Vikings were in Pittsburgh in 1975).
