The battle of Dysert O'Dea was fought in Co. Clare on May 10 1318
between the norman forces of Richard de Clare and the Irish forces of
Conor O'Dea, Murtough O'Brian and O'Connor of Corcomroe. Dysert O'Dea
lies between Ennis and Corofin in the O'Brian kingdom of Thomond. The
normans were defeated and driven from Clare. During the battle Richard
de Clare was killed by Connor O' Dea and his son was killed by O'Connor
of Corcomroe in single combat.
