Marylyn,

CHAFFIN is not listed in the Index of Names in Collins' Scottish Clan
and Family Encyclopedia, but that doesn't necessarily mean your
Caffin ancestors weren't Scottish. If you have any family records,
or a family oral history, that your Chaffin ancestors came from
Scotland, I would not discount it just because you can't find the
name in any list of Scottish surnames.

You might want to try to find a book called "Black's Surnames of
Scotland," which is very comprehensive, and see if it's in there. I
only have a couple of Xeroxed pages from it that relate to my
ancestry. You can get it from Unicorn Limited in Bruceton Mills, WV.
