On the back of a picture of Charles Wesley Sutherlin and
Frances Marion Sutherlin is this hand written information:

Charles Wesley Sutherlin son of Isham Sutherlin and Rebecca
Johnston.
Charles was born in Wayne Co. MO Dec 25.1833. Served in Civil
War CoA.31P32d MO Inf. U.S.A (Consolidated)
He died Aug 9th 1915 at 2237-23d Ave. Oakland, Calif.
He was County Auditor, and later Deputy Sheriff of Wayne Co, MO
for several years. Married Miss Ursula Abernethy by whom he had six
children. After her death he married Miss Mary Montgomery by whom he had
three
children. He died in Oakland Calif age 82 yrs. Robert M. Sutherlin, Sr, who
for over 30 years has lived at 2604-23d Avenue was the last child born to
Charles Sutherlin Sept 15 1880.
Charles Sutherlin was named after his Uncle Charles Sutherlin, elder son of
Isham and Sam who were the sons of Philip Sutherlin who migrated from Roanoke
Va.
near Danville, Va to Orleans Orange County Indiana where he took up 640
acres of land in 1808 which still belongs to his descendents. From there he
migrated to Wayne Co Mo 1830.
Picture: Their fathers were brothers, and their mothers were sisters.

(The following was written on the other half of the picture of these two men
cousins.)

Frances Marion Sutherlin: Son of Samuel Sutherlin and Mary Johnson.
Francis married Miss Elizabeth Wallace. He was born _________?
and died June 16-1909. His wife died Oct 16. 1913 (can't be sure maybe
1903, the writing is blurred).
They had nine children. He became Tax Collector of Bollivar (someone
has corrected this to read Bollinger) Co MO. Died in Kansas City, Mo.
The Sutherlins originaly came from Sutherlandshire Scotland (Probably Orkney
Islands.) Came into the Port of Charleston So. Carolina. Followed the Big
Pedee
River to Northwest No. Carolina, thence to Falls of Dan River where the
Sutherlins and their in laws established the town of Danville VA on the land
belonging to Polly Sutherlin. From there they have spread throughout the
Western States, alth

I have tried to type exactly as these were written. As you can see the corner
was torn off and missing so the last note is incomplete.
The underlined parts are my words. I don't have a scanner but I believe
the picture was given to some of you recently on our web network.

I don't know if this information is correct or if everyone already has it.
It was
passed on to me by Edward Sutherlin of Kansas City, now deceased. I was
very greatful to him for it.
