I was hoping that Bob Letson would respond to this. Again I hate to steal
his thunder, but Bob is a descendant of Samuel Sutherlin thru his oldest son,
Philip.

Bob has passed along to me a lot of his info. From his info and my records:
John P. Sutherlin, son of Samuel & Mary Johnson Sutherlin, was born 27 May
1833 in MO. He married Sarah Jane Nugent 17 Feb 1857 in Wayne Co., MO. They
are found in the Wayne Co. Census of 1860, 1870 & 1880. John P. Sutherlin
applied for a Civil War pension 8 Aug 1890, then living in Wayne Co. He died
9 Jan 1898 in Wayne Co. and is buried in Thornton Cemetery in Wayne Co. His
widow filed for a pension 11 Feb 1898. The info I have does not indicate the
widow's name, but I assume it was Sarah Jane.
