I believe my ggrandmother Mary Ann CRANFIELD was born at the Royal Oak pub
in Belvedere or Erith around 1862. I have her father listed as James
CRANFIELD, hairdresser, of Bexley Heath, Kent on Mary Ann's marriage
certificate to Henry Godfrey BALDWIN December 5 1881. Not sure what the
pub connection was - had assumed James was a publican until we got the
marriage certificate.
I got a birth certificate for a Mary Ann CRANFIELD born April 11 1862 in
Aston, Herts. Father listed as James Cranfield, mother Ellen Carter.
Trouble is the father is listed as a farm laborer which is rather a leap to
hairdresser. My great aunt did't think it was the right certificate as she
didn't remember her grandmother as being Ellen, so I think we have the
wrong one - may be of use to someone out there though?
Does anyone have any information about the Royal Oak, or more specifically
the CRANFIELDs.
Thanks
Penny
