Seeking information on Daniel Shaw (a dyer) and Esther Allen his wife who
had a daughter, Margaret, born about 1828 London. Margaret had a son
called George (father's name not known) and the two of them came to
Australia in 1855 when young George was aged 10 (born about 1845 when
Margaret was about 17). Margaret remarried in 1855 (aged 27) advising that
she had been born in London and widowed in 1847 (when aged 19) but she used
her maiden name, Shaw, on the marriage certificate so I do not know the
surname of her first husband (father of George). Young George adopted his
new stepfather's surname. I suppose there is always the possibility that
she was married to a "Shaw" (perhaps a cousin) which is the reason for
using the Shaw name on remarriage. ANY help at all is appreciated on this
family as I am at a dead end and would love to find more about the family
and the name of Margaret's first husband. (I am aware that she might have
been a single mother!) On Margaret's death certificate a relative stated
that she had been born in Edinburgh and on her son George's death
certificate it states Glasgow so there is possibly a Scottish connection
but I prefer to go on the information given by Margaret herself by the
marriage certificate in Australia. Sorry for being so long-winded but I am
desperate to find a connection so am providing all known information.
Please email me direct if you can assist.
