I am descended from David (b. 10 MAR 1772 Great Barrington, MA - d. 12 MAR
1836 Egremont, MA) and Hannah (Stone) Crossman and have run into a roadblock
on her ancestors. If anyone has any additional information that would help,
I would certainly appreciate the assistance. In 1800 David and Hannah were
living in Columbia County, NY, along with 1 m<10y. In 1810 there was 1 m
11-16 and 1 f<10 (Cornelia) in the household. The marriage announcement in
the Hudson Valley paper for their daughter Cornelia to my
greatgreatgrandfather Seneca Buckman indicated that her parents were David
and Cornelia (Stone) Crossman. However, I believe that this was in error as
David and Cornelia Crossman sold land to David Crossman, Jr in 1805 (Liber
B1 page 311 & Liber B page 157) and in that same year David Jr and Hannah
Crossman sold land to Mary Closson (Liber B1 page 317 & Liber B page 160).
Since Cornelia was born in 1806, the wife at the time of the property sale
in 1805 should be her mother. Additionally, in 1860 Hannah Crossman, widow,
was living with David and Cornelia in Darien, NY. Her age was given as 87
and that she was born in CT. A search of CT records has produced only two
Hannah Stones born there around 1777, those being Abner and Hannah's
daughter born February 28, 1777 in Guilford and John and Elizabeth's
daughter born October 26, 1777 in Danbury.
Thanks,
Dick Bucknum
