Dear Steele/Steel researchers,

I had planned on making an announcement this weekend to both the
STEELE-L and STEEL-L lists, along with the SteeleGen list which I have
been operating for the past year or so. There were to have been two
main points to my message, first, that I was closing the SteeleGen list
and recommending that everyone subscribe to STEELE-L if they hadn't
already done so, and second, that my search for someone to take over the
Steele National Repository had ended successfully.

In the middle of all this, Amy K. Davis, STEELE-L list moderator, asked
if I'd be interested in taking over as moderator of the STEEL-L and
STEELE-L lists, along with the newly approved GenConnect pages which are
also sponsored by Rootsweb. After consulting with Jeri J. Steele, who
will be assuming full control of the Steele National Repository in the
next few days, the decision was made. Along with the SNR, Jeri will
also be responsible for GenConnect, and will be making some
announcements concerning this in the near future, and since the
SteeleGen list is effectively being merged into the STEELE-L list, I
have agreed to take over from Amy and oversee this transition and to
help in any way I can - and I will maintain my other web site, Steele's
Genealogy Roundtable.

I'm particularly pleased to be turning the Repository over to Jeri J.
Steele. As a Certified Genealogical Record Specialist and researcher of
Texas STEELE surnames, Jeri is far more qualified than me to take SNR to
the next level. For more details on her qualifications, please visit
her bio page at http://pioneerinfo.com/jeri-bio.html. There will be a
new look and a new address for SNR, and these announcements will be
forthcoming in the near future. For the time being, continue using our
old address:

I know that Jeri will need help, and I would like to invite everyone
who is willing to volunteer, to notify Jeri privately at
, stating your particular qualifications. Help
will be needed in many areas, so please let her know if you'd be willing
to invest some of your time in helping the entire Steele/Steel
community.

.

Also, I want to welcome all former SteeleGen subscribers who have
switched over to STEELE-L (or STEEL-L), and I look forward to working
with them here. I don't know how many of our 230 subscribers to expect,
but if another list I recently merged into Rootsweb is any indication,
only 1/3 were dual subscribers.

I think we should all thank Amy privately at for
the time and effort she's devoted to the list, and I look forward to her
continued participation. And, if anyone has comments, questions,
suggestions, etc., for either Amy, Jeri or me, please send them
privately, and not to the entire list (in other words, don't hit the
reply button ; - ).

Warm regards,

Tom Steele
