Dear Doris and Marilyn,
FYI --When you get a Southard List message through your e-mail program it can be from another Lister or it is "gatewayed" from some one posting a query on the Southard message board on Rootsweb/Ancestry. Those messages from Rootsweb/Ancestry have the following heading with an underlined link (my is colored blue) that when you click on it will open a new window and take you to the message board.
"This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
Surnames: Southard, Horton
Message Board URL:
At the end of the gatewayed query is another message:
The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you
would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL
link above and respond on the board."
This means if you just click the reply button of your e-mail program, type your response and click on send, then your message is just going to the List and it's subscribers, it is not "gatewayed" back to the Rootsweb/Ancestry Southard message board where the orginial person placed the query and it cannot be read by them or any one else browsing that board.
So unless wildirishrose961 is a List subscriber she will not be able to read and respond to your replies.
By the way the area her Southards are from is Ohio. I found Clyde Ernest Southard's WWI Draft Card filed in Crawford Co. OH. In the 1920 census he is still single and living in the U.S. Army Barracks of the Columbus Military Reservation in Franklin Co. OH. He lists parents born in OH too.
Can either of you make out the name of the nearest relative on his Draft Card, if you have access? I will be posting what I find later after do a little more looking at my sources.
Robert O. Southard lived in Lorain Co. OH when he died according to the SSA death index.
