a. Charles KESTELL, 32, and his wife Grace with their four children John 10, Elizabeth 8, Susannah 5 and Charles 1, were in Morgan's party on Ocean. Charles was the son of John and Susannah KESTELL and was born 14.2.1787 and baptised in the parish of Stoke Dameral, Devon on 29.5.1809. He married Grace WEYMOUTH at East Stanehouse 19.8.1808.
b1. John KESTELL (s.o. Charles) married by the Rev. HEAVYSIDE in the Cathedral, Grahamstown on 12.9.1835 to June KING. They died young and left two daughters: Eliza Emma and Ellen who married RUDMAN of Uitenhage.
c1. Eliza Emma m. John SHORT, son of Col. Francis Smylie SHORT of Royal Horse Artillery. They had five daughters and a son. One of the daughters Ilva married Thomas Gard WEBB. (q.v.) - 1 son, 2 dau.

Charles KESTELL (son of the settler) is the ancestor of J.D. KESTELL who married a sister of Senator J. H. HOFMEYER, and translated the Bible into Afrikaans. The brother of Dick KING who rode from Durban to Grahamstown (1842) married a KESTELL girl.
John SHORT and a brother Francis who was killed by the Xhosa near Committees in the war of 1846. Some time afterwards John collected the bones and had them buried in the old Church of England Cemetery above the station in Grahamstown.
