Hi.

I just joined this message board and thought that I would post my Snyder/SNIDER lineage and see if anyone has a connection. As far back as I've been able to get, my Snyder line has been in Roanoke, VA. Mostly Salem. Starting from most recent going on back:

Minnie Pearl Snyder, b. abt. 1874 in Roanoke Co., d. after 1940. Last known location was Roanoke Co. Burial unknown. Perhaps with her husband, Jacob Henry BOYD. They were m. by a Methodist preacher in Oct. 1895. They had the following children: Leonia, Roy (my g* grandfather), William, Cecil and Walter. They moved from Roanoke in the turn of the century to Ohio, Massachusetts, NJ, settling in PA. Minnie returned to Roanoke after 1932 when her husband died. Her father was

Mathias SNYDER, b. abt. 1837 in Roanoke Co., VA, d. 1899 in Richmond, VA at Lee Camp Veterans Home. He was a civil war veteran and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. I have lots of information about his civil war service if anyone is interested. He married Sophia Laura J. MEADOWS, b. abt. 1837 in Bedford Co., VA. Her mothers maiden name was BANNISTER. Mathias and Laura had the following children: James, Nannie, Maggie, Minnie* and Angelina (Angie). Mathias was the son of:

John SNYDER or SNIDER. He was b b/t 1800-1804 in Botetourt or Roanoke Co., VA. I'm not sure when the counties split or changed. He married someone with a "L" initial - perhaps a Lucy. The one document that I've found is really hard to read. She must have died early though because in all of the censuses, he is living with someone different. His children may have been: Nancy, Sarah, Mathias* (for certain), and Martha. Nancy was married to a William RHODES. In every census, John is a land surveyor.

John may have been the son of a Henry Snider and the grandson of a Mathias Snyder. I don't have any concrete evidence of that.
