Hello and happy holidays to all my Sherwood family out there,

Regarding immigrant Thomas Sherwood who came over on the "Francis" and his
wives: In "Families of Old Fairfield", 1930, I believe Donald Line Jacobus
has Thomas SHERWOOD -1655 Fairfield, CT m1. Alice _____, m2. Mary ____ *
His Will names his wife Mary, however, I haven't found a record which
documents Mary's last name. I have a date noted for Thomas' Will as 21 Jul
1655, probated 25 Oct 1655 and that his Will names wife Mary. Does anyone
have a source to verify these exact dates or a copy of Thomas' Will?

Also, information passed along to me from New England Historical and
Genealogical Register, July 1938, NEH&GS. p.303 is that Notes on the Second
Wife of Joseph LOOMIS of Windsor, Conn. includes a discussion saying that Mary
the second wife of Thomas Sherwood was not a Fitch. As I understand it,
Donald Lines Jacobus had also argued against immigrant Thomas Sherwood's wife
Mary being a Fitch. If someone has these sources, I would be most interested
in learning more specifically what Jacobus and p. 303 in NEHGR say on
immigrant Thomas Sherwood's wife Mary.

The only information I have on a Mary Fitch is:

* Jacobus' "Families of Old Fairfield" Vol 1 Pg 205 has Thomas Fitch's
will of 6 Oct 1696 listing "dau. Mary now wife of Capt. Matthew Sherwood."

* The Bradford Mayflower Families in Progress (MFIP), p. 18 has the
following on Mary (Sherwood) Fitch, daughter of Matthew and Mary (Fitch)
Sherwood: (hope a few caps are okay here as I'm quoting exactly as it is on
page in MFIP)
"16 JOSEPH (3) BRADFORD (William 2-1) b. Plymouth 18 April
1675; d. New London CT 17 Jan. 1747 in 73rd yr.
He m. (1) Lebanon CT 5 Oct. 1698 ANNA FITCH, b. Norwich CT 6 April 1675;
d. Lebanon CT 7 Oct. 1715; dau. of James and Priscilla (Mason) Fitch of
Norwich.
He m. (2) int. New London CT 25 Feb. 1715/6 MARY (SHERWOOD) FITCH, b.
1674; d. Montville CT 16 Sept. 1752; dau. of Matthew and Mary (Fitch)
Sherwood. She m. (1) Preston CT 4 March 1698 Daniel Fitch by whom she had
Adonijah, James, Lemuel, Mary and Daniel. The will of Matthew Sherwood dated
14 April 1713 names dau. Mary Fitch. The will of Mary Sherwood of Stratfield
dated 9 July 1726 names dau. Mary Bradford."
I descend from Joseph Bradford's brother Israel Bradford and Mary Bartlett,
also from immigrant Thomas Sherwood through Matthew.

The Sherwood line is fascinating and I'd like to learn lots more about
immigrant Thomas and his wife Mary, especially if anyone has any information
on their spiritual beliefs. Were they Puritans?
