I'm wondering about a name that I came across while building my family tree. The name is Consalus (or sometimes Consalus - Duk), and I've read that it's a variation of Gonsales.

Anyways, I came across a website that said they were Sephardic Jewish.

They were from Spain / Portugal originally, then left to Holland, where my particular descendant (Manuel Consalus / Gonsales) married a Dutch woman with the surname Davids. From there they came to America, settling in New York (Sullivan county, I believe), then in the late 1800s, made their way into Canada.

There are a handful of websites that I came across, mainly just family tree sites, that claim this family is of Sephardic descent, and I was hoping maybe somebody around here might be able to verify that.

As well, I checked out Sephardim.com, their list of surnames, and found another one in my family tree, Hain. I didn't realize that was a Sephardic name.

So again, I'm hoping that there may be someone around this board that could possibly verify that Consalus / Gonsales for me.

Thanks,

- Sean
