Thanks for the reply. I have tried all the possibilities, there is no town Steinhoff that I can find, her mother's
maiden name was BÜTTERMANN, translation of the name is stone-hope.

There is a better possibility in the fact that in that time and place it was the custom to assume the name of the farm.
Hof (one f) translates to yard or farm. It's possible that her parents inherited, or became Kolon (farm owner) of a farm
named Steinhoff and were known as, or "called", Steinhoff. However, I have not had any luck pursuing this theory.
